Mask Replacement

Important questions to ask patients

Effective treatment gives you comfortable, optimal results.

When your supplies are working at optimum performance, you will be able to tell the difference—from a comfortable good night's sleep to feeling awake and refreshed every morning.

The most important step in achieving optimum results is to inspect and replace your supplies regularly.

When should you replace your supplies? Ask yourself:

Has your headgear become stretchy?

Yes/No – This can lead to unnecessary overtightening to maintain your seal and ultimately result in discomfort and ineffective therapy.

Has the Velcro on your headgear become worn?

Yes/No – This can lead to unnecessary overtightening to maintain your seal and ultimately result in discomfort and ineffective therapy.

Did you know that old headgear can trap bacteria from sweat and moisture, which can lead to a bad odor and/or skin irritation?

Does your silicone cushion have a yellow tinge to it?

Yes/No – This can lead to increased discomfort from skin irritation and air leaks, ultimately resulting in ineffective therapy.

Does your cushion have residue build-up on it?

Yes/No – This can lead to increased discomfort from skin irritation and air leaks, ultimately resulting in ineffective therapy.

Have the edges of your silicone cushion become rough and/or started to show signs of cracks?

Yes/No – This can lead to increased discomfort from skin irritation and air leaks, ultimately resulting in ineffective therapy.

Has your silicone cushion become stiff?

Yes/No – This may require you to increase your headgear tension to prevent air leaks, consequently increasing discomfort and causing skin irritations/indentations.

Sleep therapy masks used at home tend to last approximately three to six months, depending on how often you use and clean them.

It's extremely important that you inspect your mask regularly for deterioration, and that you replace your supplies at the first signs of damage or wear and tear. Using a mask that is in good condition will help you make sure that you're getting a proper seal during therapy. You'll also be much more comfortable and more likely to experience the benefits of treatment.
